Stamford Firefighters Union Congratulates New Chief, Calls For New Contract
"Stamford turns the page on a new chapter of leadership in the Stamford Fire Department. We congratulate Fire Chief Trevor Roach and look forward to working together with him in a productive labor/management partnership," Keatley said in the statement.
Brown's retirement, which was announced Wednesday, well be effective Dec. 1.
“For his more than four-decade career, Chief Brown has given Stamford residents distinguished service, and with his retirement, Stamford loses a dedicated servant,” said Mayor David Martin. “Chief Brown has been vital in keeping Stamford’s Fire Department moving forward as one department, and has respectfully worked with both career and volunteer firefighters. I wish him all the best in retirement.”
Assistant Fire Chief Trevor Roach has been appointed to be the new fire chief and will begin in his new role Dec. 1.
"We also want to thank outgoing Fire Chief Peter Brown for his lifelong commitment to the Stamford Fire Department. Brown has dedicated nearly four decades of service to the citizens of Stamford," Keatley said in the statement. "He has stated on multiple occasions that he and city leaders at the Government Center had two key priorities that must be addressed by the city and Mayor Martin."
Keatley said the first is the unification of the fire service in Stamford, ,saying it is "still delayed and bogged down three years post-charter revision."
The second issue is to reach a labor agreement for Stamford Professional Fire Fighters union, which has been without a contract for over five years.
"We are truly disappointed that the Martin administration has been unable and unwilling to make any progress on any of its long-stated commitments, which include the resolution of labor contracts with each and every one of the Office of Public Safety, Health and Welfare agency's work units--including: Stamford Professional Fire Fighters, employees of the Smith House Nursing Home and the members of the Stamford Police," Keatley said.
"It is clear that the provision of public safety services has not been one of the Martin administration’s priorities, nearly halfway through his term."
