Justice Alito sold Bud Light stock, bought Coors following Dylan Mulvaney upheaval

WASHINGTON (TND) — Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito sold between $1,000 and $15,000 worth of stock in Bud Light parent company Anheuser-Busch last August, according to financial disclosure documents released by the federal judiciary.

The transaction on August 16 coincided with a purchase of Molson Coors within the same price range. That company owns big brews such as Blue Moon, Coors Light and Hamm’s.

Justice Alito appears to have lost out on the trade, however, as Anheuser-Busch stock traded at $55.05 at the time of sale and is now worth $65.49. Molton Coors was worth $62.45 at the time, and now hovers at $55.03.

The timing of the transaction coincided with nationwide upheaval over Bud Light’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Customers who saw the partnership as an unnecessary move into heavily politicized territory organized a boycott of the beer, which preceded $395 million in lost sales. Modelo later replaced Bud Light as the top-selling beer brand in the U.S.

Mulvaney became a target of much of the backlash, later claiming to have “trauma” from the fallout. The activist in July briefly fled the country to Peru “to feel safe.”

The news comes as Justice Alito is facing criticism after the New York Times revealed he flew an upside-down American flag outside his home in 2021. The symbol was used by supporters of former President Donald Trump to express skepticism in President Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 election.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Tuesday said such a move was a “mistake” and created a “bad image” for the justice.

“It's not good judgment to do that," Sen. Graham said."And, you know, people have to realize that moments like that, to think it through.”
