Indiana Co. church erecting 100+ foot cross that 'can be seen for miles'

Indiana County, PA (WJAC) — A giant cross in Indiana County has to be seen to be believed.

The newly erected steel cross is located at Hilltop Baptist Church.

Standing 108 feet high, and 70 feet wide, the steel cross can be seen from miles away.

Church leaders say they've been working on it for several months now and so far, volunteers have committed thousands of hours to help build it.

Several local crane companies have also lent a hand.

The pastor of the church says the idea came to him as he saw similar crosses in states like Tennessee and Kentucky.

Officials say the church has come a long way since it began in 1857 in the Indiana County courthouse.

Leaders say the cross should be complete in the next couple weeks.
