Former Johnstown home of Clara Barton undergoes restoration

Publish date: 2024-06-26

More progress is being made towards reconstructing the Ludwig House in downtown Johnstown.

The home housed Clara Barton, who founded the Red Cross, as she helped survivors of the 1889 Johnstown Flood.

Clara Barton House and Gardens Inc. recently obtained several grants, totaling tens of thousands of dollars from local organizations, including the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.

While the organization still needs more grant money, the reconstruction has slowly begun, starting with stabilizing the house and preventing more damage from the weather.

An exact timeline of when the reconstruction should be completed has not yet been announced.
