Baltimore officer on life support after shooting during search for suspect, officials say
BALTIMORE (WBFF) — An officer with Baltimore County Police is on life support after being shot during a manhunt Thursday night, officials said.
Dr. Thomas Scalea of the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center said the officer was admitted to the hospital just after 10 p.m. on Thursday with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and his extremities.
"He'll be with us for a while," said Scalea.
Interim Baltimore County Police Chief Dennis Delp said the shooting happened during a brief encounter during which suspect David Emory Linthicum stole a vehicle. Delp said the officer was wearing a ballistic vest at the time.
Officials also said Linthicum wounded a different officer while firing at police Wednesday afternoon.
The search for Linthicum began Wednesday after a barricade in Cockeysville. Police say they were called to the scene because of a "person in crisis."
According to a tweet from the Harford County Sheriff's Office early Friday morning, Linthicum was taken into custody.
